The downfall of Rod Little

PostPost by: Quart Meg Miles » Tue Jan 03, 2023 10:43 pm

The unfortunate Rod Little, who documented his restoration of 26/0086 3-XGF here some ten years ago, had a flying accident back in October https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/290497 and his aircraft was written off. Both he and is companion were seriously injured but Rod is now out of the main hospital, though still needing special care, and although he is recovering is not expected to regain full mobility.

My informant was a passer by, Malcolm, not a forum member (yet), who used to own 3-XGF in the late 60s and currently owns a 1966 Elan coupe. He knows Rod, though didn't name him, and that he had restored it but mentioned he might not be driving again as he'd had a flying accident. I recognised the plate number but had to look up who it was and immediately emailed Malcolm for details. I met Rod and Peta, his wife, at a Goodwood Breakfast Club meeting, years ago, and he made light of his extraordinary accomplishment, a very modest man.

It is a tragedy and I'm sure we all wish Rod and Peta as comfortable a journey as is possible.

Sorry to hear about this... Rod hasn't been here in over a year. Best wishes if Rod passes by...

This year is full of bad news so far... Doug Chadwick (LOG photographer) passed away Monday... Ken Block died Monday...

p.s. Rod's restoration thread is posted here - https://lotuselan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21274

Seconded, wishing Rod a speedy recovery and a better degree of mobility than the doctors think.

I have asked Malcolm if he would pass on your kind messages to Peta and he has replied with this update:

"Peta has emailed saying Rod is making good progress and this week will be transferred from Haywards Heath to the specialist Salisbury spinal recovery centre, then hoping to be home in two to three months after."

That's encouraging and it is amazing what can be done for repair and rehabilitation these days. Best wishes Rod, Peta and friend.
