I need to get my Tacho bought back to life. While I was fixing my bouncing Speedo (which turned out to be the L-shaped bracket going into the gearbox), the Tacho seems to have died. All the lights inside still work, and it was converted to work on electric ignition by the PO. It worked perfectly before.
So I'm now considering which place to send it to as I have no idea who converted it. So far I've managed to track down 3 companies and wondered if anyone had any experiences to share or have any other recommendations.

Hi Ian,
Or you could repair or covert yourself? (you don't say if you have an RVI or RVC)
I am in the process of converting my RVI to RVC for the hall effect ignition.
Please see the attached documents.

I used Speedycables for the Tach conversion/repair about 6 years ago - best money spent on my +2 in terms of 'it does what it says' & no hassle. Get a quote & then send the unit. Came back on time and like new; cleaned, plated & polished. I checked and it was the same one! Cost around ?70 at the time, including registered postage and Very Angry Tradesman surcharge.
I also used them to service the sluggish speedo. Happy punter.

PS repairing/converting it yourself is fine, but what will these specialists do when everyone does it? Also, how do you calibrate the tach yourself?

+ 1 for Speedy Cables. They did a good job on my oil pressure/water temp gauge recently.

I had my tacho converted for electronic ignition by John Ostick (www.jdo1.com)
Service was very good, it was returned in a matter of days. He also repaired the dashboard clock for me, again good service.

I just had my tacho converted by speedy cables in November, took about 6 weeks. Initially was told would take 4 weeks (delayed as apparently several of their skilled workers left the company, was told this over the phone).
Cost ~?100 for refurb, electronic ign conversion and P+P VAT .etc
Gauge looks brand new, plated and painted, haven't tested it yet though.

I've used speedy cables for recalibration of the speedo and modification to the tacho after completing the spyder conversion. No problems with their work and I would use them again but I have nicknamed them slowey cables.

I, Too, recommend Speedy Cables. They're now, as I understand, the Smiths Instrument manufacturer.

Not my experience - they quoted 4-6 weeks to do my oil/water gauge last year but I got it back in under 2. Maybe it depends on the time of year or the type of gauge, or perhaps they wait until they have a batch of the same type and do them all together.
