Series 2 Windscreens

PostPost by: jono » Mon Jan 08, 2024 10:51 am

My friend is restoring a 1965 S2 - it needs a new screen but he cannot tell whether it's tinted or clear (it has what appears to be a very fine greenish hue, but it's not apparent whether this is just the glass or a deliberate tint)

Does anyone know whether tinted screens were a thing on a S2 or were they all 'clear'

Many thanks for any directions on this.

I think quite a few Elans have the "Sundym" type windscreen, maybe not available in the days of first registered S2's (I may be wrong), but may have had them replaced subsequently. My '68 S3 had one.
Current :- Elan S3 DHC SE S/S 1968,
1963 Alfa Giulia Ti Super Rep.
Previous :-
Elan S3 DHC SE SS 1968,
Elan S3 DHC S/E 1966
Elan S3 FHC Pre-Airflow 1966

Looking at the parts manual https://lotuselan.net/wiki/BB_-_Body_-_Primary_Exterior it shows only a single windscreen upto 5810 (S1/S2) and then tinted options.

026B0029 Windscreen Upto 5810
036B029C Windscreen, Tinted (.015 in. centre) From 5811 to 7399
036B029D Windscreen (.030 in. centre), Sundym From 7400
036B029E Windscreen, Shaded Sundym From 7400

Many thanks for the comments, I think we've now established that it's a clear screen.
