Electric light lifter

Morning,

I am looking at making an electric lifter mechanism for my S3, loosely based on the failsafe mechanism on my +2 which is a quite well trod path. However, I have hit something of a design problem. On my +2, a bar pivots between the two headlight pod bolts, with brackets attached to the rear of the pods. This works because the two bolts are in line. Unfortunately on the S3, the two bolts are not in line, but each point up by about 30 degrees. Consequently the bar would not be able to pivot unless there was massive clearance between the bar and the bolt. This would appear to be very crude.

I know the later Elans had the failsafe mechanism. Was the bolt position changed to be in line like the +2? Kits are available to convert the car to electric lifter, which are available for all versions of the car and look to use the same principle. How do these work?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers,

David

I used 2 Mazda MX5 motors on my S3. Never thought of connecting them, except electrically.
