French Blues

PostPost by: atthelimit » Mon Oct 16, 2023 8:02 am

Hi all, does anyone know if the Lotus French Blue is the same as the Triumph French Blue as used on Stags and GT6s of the same period. I want to paint my car but the Lotus colour looks a little dark in some lights and in pictures the triumph one a touch lighter. Anyone have any knowledge.

Yes I know some purist won’t like it but as it’s probably the last nut and bolt I’ll do I going to have it my way and others can argue about it when I’m gone.

LO2 French Blue was indeed a Triumph colour. It was available from mid 1967 to October 1970.

Nexa Autocolor code 7210. PPG code LOT0046.

French Blue on my 1969 S4 was darker than the Triumph Colour...I'll try and find a phot if I can.

Blue Elan threads below. I chose a modern colour, Ford grabber blue, which is similar to french blue.

I used to have a blue Elan, an S4 SE FHC. I would have called it royal blue but some people on line have called similar cars French blue. I had always considered French blue to be a light blue, but then I found this colour chart a while ago which threw me somewhat. Either way the Elan looks great in blue :)

I think the more ‘royal’ darker shade is French *racing* blue, as opposed to lighter shades that may have some other French relevance.

There's another colour called Cerulean Blue (or is it "Wedgewood Blue?) that is similar but not quite the same as French Blue. Not on that colour chart of course.
