Hi
I'm rebuilding my engine and have a question about sump modifications :
here you can see my poor condition sump with damaged partitions :
I would like to know what is the best issue for upgrade it to a baffled type
is the keveldon system is a good idea ?

Hi,
1, Is that a twin cam sump? Mine is larger at the base of the bowl.
2, I have a system similar to the Kelvdon one and whilst it might be better than standard it still suffers from oil surge on long bends on the track.
As H2O suggests the elantrickbits is another option.
Cheers

here are a couple of pics of my lip seal sumps. One showing a standard sump with 4 lts of water in it and the standard baffle. I think your sump if from a standard Ford engine. I would think that the standard sump is OK for road use. Just depends how mad you are on the RH corners, LoL.
Cheers

your right!
my sump doesn't looks as fat as yours !
My background sump is damaged and has been repaired with brass...I plan to replace the background sheetmetal plate, maybe I can modify it to the correct "fat" lotus profile
maybe you could give me the correct width of a lotus sump ?

Mini,
I'll get the measurements but It may take a day or two as I'll have to move my cars about.
Cheers

The sump widened portion is 8 5/8" wide on the sump from my 70+2. It's on a lumber shipping stand and I can't get a front to back measurement with any accuracy. I don't think that they modified them in that direction, but I may be wrong about that.

The wider sump bowl is not very critical except for looks. The correct internal baffle / oil pick up system is needed if you are driving the car hard on road and especially on the track. The earlier centre pickup design that you have is less sensitive than the later six bolt right hand side pick up to problems in right hand bends but they all need work in a car used hard in real life.
It looks like you're sump needed major surgery but what the end product looks like needs some thought i think
cheers

Before you get too far along, you might want to make a sturdy base to bolt the flange to. Without one, the shaping and welding could distort the flange on the sump. It's easier to prevent that problem than cure it.
