711M6015BA value

I have a 1600GT Block : 711M6015BA and i'm thinking of selling it.
It's standard bore but will need it's first rebore.
I also have the Crankshaft that goes with it + Flywheel. The Crank Journals are STD standard but will need first regrind because n°3 journal is scored.
I wondered if someone could give me an idea of the value/selling price.
Thanks
Alan

I used to buy these engines complete for the sump and rear seal carrier for around A$200 15 years ago and scrapped most of the heads and other bits and most of the blocks and cranks but kept a few of the best bits for building big road twin cams some time, maybe.
These days the sump is still more valuable than the block and crank No real idea what a block and crank is worth in Europe these days
cheers

The 711M6015BA is the best block to start with for a 1600 crossflow because it has the rear dipstick provision, stronger square main caps and large bore tappet holes. It will most likely have originally been fitted to either an Escort, Capri or Mk3 Cortina and therefore will not have the correct sump for an Elan unless it's been subject to a mix and match of parts over the years. It's quite sought after although not particularly rare. Agree about $A250-300 for just the block but this will be region specific. May be worth more in the UK.

Thanks Donels,
it's in my garage and i will never use it so i thought i would sell it.
For someone to use and make a tall block Twink it could be ok.
But of course i'm in Brittany France so transport could be a problem.

Hello Alan,
The 711M blocks are the preferred block for use in historic Formula Ford. The engine builders usually look for good blocks, sleeve them back to standard bore. May I suggest you check with local Formula Ford groups/internet forums in your area. I'm sure you'll find a buyer.
Regards,
Dan

Alan,
Ref transport. For the one I sold the buyer paid extra for me to crate it up and it was then collected by DHL. Crate is a relative term, I used some wood I had lying around to make strong bottom, then just enclosed it. These days I would just wrap in plastic and strap it to pallet. I don’t know what courier service is like in Brittany?

Hi,
I'm not sure about the value.
With respect to transport, if it is just an old block then a palette might work. Never entrust a newly built engine to transport firms. It will just get broken as they really don't care.

Hi Alan,
my recent experience in that matter dates back a couple years when I wanted to assemble a test engine which got lost, and there was choice of bare clean 711 blocks in the 100-150 range. I suppose the matching square caps would add say 50 to 100 (I wanted new steel caps so line boring was required). The crank/flywheel I would consider as a separate issue since the crank needs a regrind (machining cost is likely to dominate final value), and my guess woud be 50-100 for them as is (I also had purchased a freshly 10/10 reground 2731 crank for 25 UKP then, with new bearings, for test purposes, but without flywheel as a new alloy one was meant to be fitted). As always, it is often a matter of chance and timing, offering the parts when someone desperately needs them can help with the price.
Good luck!
