I bought the S3 from Paul Matty 4 years ago - it had previously been rebuilt on a Spyder tubular chassis in 1998-2000. I have a huge folder of bills from that period. It was fitted with solid drive shafts and rebuilt suspension and braking system.
Over the last 4 years I have spent ?12,000 plus on turning it into a beautiful car - if you follow my thread you will see the full body restoration by SMS, who have done an outstanding job. It has matching hardtop and a new hood, powder coated wheels and new spinners.
Further work on the car includes:-
- new dash
- new loom
- large capacity alloy radiator and swirl pot
- replacement vacuum reservoirs
- electronic ignition
- new carpets
- full rechrome of window frames
- new windscreen
- period radio with audio lead connection for Iphone etc
- new hood and tonneau
The car is fitted with Spyder roll over bar, side impact and foot well bars. It has a Stromberg head fitted and runs at Sprint pace, great fast road spec.
The car was originally a FHC but early in its life converted to DHC - it is indistinguishable from a factory DHC.
I have priced to reflect both the 'non-purist' spec but also the quality of the car - ?26,995.

I know the S1 you bought. I should have taken a chunk out of my mortgage to buy it!
I was thinking of selling my Lotus 51 in the UK not long ago but the Aussie dollar has really climbed against the Pound. If it keeps climbing perhaps cars will start to be reimported back here. There has been quite a few significant cars leave our shores in the past few years.
There are certainly a wide variety of Elan's to choose from in the UK compared to here. And other cars for that matter.
I love my monthly fix of Octane and Classic & Sports Car and regularly trawl the net following the market.

I am putting the S3 properly up for sale now - it will go on an auction site in 10 days time so if anyone would like to get ahead of that please do make contact.
As you will see from the spec this is not one for the purists - it is though a lovely fast road spec Elan, with all the hard work done and one to use all year round just for fun - priced accordingly.
Try and find the cheapest Elan and price simply for a body restoration and it will be as much or more than this...

I can! Shipping is about ?3000 and it takes 12-14 weeks...
