Heavy heart - Lotus Elan Sprint 1972 FHC

PostPost by: Jimnic007 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 11:27 am

Hi all,

It is with a heavy heart that I am putting up for sale my FHC Lotus Elan Sprint that I bought from Cedric earlier in the year, via this excellent forum. I purchased the car from Cedric in Nice in March this year and relocated it back to England. I have hankered after an Elan for many years having owned more modern Lotus variants (Elise and Exige).

The reason for sale is simply that it hasn't got the use that I expected it to get and I can't justify such a beautiful car sitting in the garage. I have six year old twin boys and whilst they love the event of going out in the car, neither of them can drive(!) and so one of them has to stay at home each time!! I would therefore like to give someone else the opportunity of owning this incredibly well sorted car.

Cedric has really looked after the car and spent a great deal of time and money putting the right modifications on the vehicle. I have a good selection of the historic parts that came from Cedric as well, so in large parts, it could be put back to standard if required, but I think the modifications done by Cedric and the previous owners are all very sensible and desirable.

The car was first registered on 16 October 1972 and has done c68,000miles. I have the Certificate of Conformity from Lotus Cars. In 1982 the chassis was replaced by Spyder sport for the then owner, the car was later re-sold by Paul Matty in 2009 to a chap in Rome and then Cedric bought the car in 2012. I have an immense amount of history for the car, including contact and pictures from one of the earliest owners. In addition to this, the car will also come with an indoor cover and the excellent Brian Buckland manual (in addition to the Workshop manual).

Since buying the car, I have had it re-registered in the UK and added back a new period number plate, it was MOT'd in April, so there is 7months left on this, I have replaced the old tyres with new Uniroyal Rain Expert 3 tyres and replaced the LHD lights back to the original RHD lights.

The car is in fantastic condition inside and out, has been very reliable since I have owned it and it drives and sounds great.

The car is located in Warrington, NW England and I would be happy to show the car to anyone who is interested. I have lots of information on file, so if you are after anything in particular, please ask and I will try and send it direct.

I would like to recoup what I paid for the car and associated costs, so I am looking for offers around ?37,500.

Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks James, this lovely Elan has now been collected and has been relocated to Warwickshire just outside Leamington Spa.

This is my first Elan, and having covered over 100 miles today, on some slimey roads, it was brilliant fun I am just starting to bond, and getting used to it.

I need to sort a few small issues, ( handbrake, droopy lights) but all in all, the car is a peach and goes link stink. Here's to many years of Elan fun ahead.

Thanks.
