Cant rail attachment

Hi All, first time S2 owner, just acquired missing cant rails, but not 100% sure how they are attached. There is a threaded bobbin at the base. What type of screw (thread pitch, etc.) and what is the length? Were there instructions in the original owners manual on fitting the hood and hardware? Thank you, Scott

Scott,
I think you are referring to the locating bolt/peg ? here is a picture that may explain it, unfortunately I cant get to my car at the moment for a better picture but found this one in my files.
....and a couple more pics showing the front attachment.

Brian, thank you. Exactly what I needed! Is the bolt that protrudes to locate the bobbin in the body a Lotus part that can be sourced? I realize I can fabricate one, but would need to see an example. I believe the owner's manual refers to this as a 'peg'. Also, my cant rails are missing aluminum and rubber trim pieces (it is just glass fibre and tenax fasteners). Are these pieces available from a UK source? Scott

I'm afraid I dont know if the parts are available, I just made up the bolt/pegs from a bolt years ago, the rubbers I just sourced from various places and the aluminium drip rails were with the car which was in pieces.
The cant rails I got from Miles Wilkins so you could try him, Paul Matty and the other suppliers although I believe the drip rails are quite scarce.

Hi CG,
The bottom of my cant rail is pictured below. The rubber pad is needed to raise the cant rail above the door where it shuts and mine is currently 4 mm thick (5/32"). The rod poking through is 3.6 mm (9/64") diameter and extends 16 mm (5/8") beyond the rubber pad but this isn't critical as the bobbin it inserts into has a through hole. Some of these rods are rounded at the end which would cause less damage to paintwork when fitting the rail but may not be original. The grotty bit of foam at the back is draught proofing!
The procedure for fitting the cant rail is to insert the front into the windscreen ring and then the rear rod into its bobbin behind the door opening.
The next picture shows the rubber extrusion (which has been cut to fit so one section is rather further back). The largest distance across the hollow part of the extrusion is 26 mm (1"). I don't use a drip rail but you'll need one with a standard hood.
