Regency Red Elans

PostPost by: Mazzini » Wed Jul 27, 2011 6:50 am

I was just looking at the Elan Register and I noticed that there were only two regency red Plus 2's listed. I believe regency red was made available in 1970, but other than a regency over white Sprint I don't think I've seen a two seater Elan in that colour.

Regency Red LO11 was introduced in October 1970. I have counted the Sprints that I know of that left the factory in that colour and found 60, including both the last domestic FHC and DHC made.

After Cirrus White (Mono, obviously) Maroon, as Regency Red was called in the Lotus paint brochure, was the least popular colour for Sprints.

Thanks Tim. I don't think I've ever seen a mono regency S4 or Sprint, I wonder if there are any out there?

Thanks for posting the photo. I think it looks great. I can't understand why is wasn't a popular colour.

It's probably been painted, but it looks like Regency to me.

Regency really suits +2's I know of one, not currently on the road.

Not sure it looks so good on Elans but colour is a very personal thing.

As I may have mentioned in another post I hate silver with a passion but it has become one of the most common colours on UK cars

My first Elan was a '66 S3, bought from the late Mick Miller in the early 80's. The original colour of the car was silver, must have been a special order, Mick painted it yellow.

My S4 is yellow and will stay yellow. I imagine there are a lot of yellow Elans out there.

Further to the Regency Red discussion I saw this rather nice L reg Sprint at the Lavenham (Suffolk) classic car show (29th Aug)

Unfortunately I missed the owner so didn't get any detailed info' on the car. It is a beautiful car with an excellent shell and paintwork ..... but I'm still not sure about Regency on an Elan :)

Wow! It is rather 'surprising' but I quite like it. Thanks for posting the photo. Do you have any more of the car?

Thanks. You reckon that's the same shade that was used on Plus 2's? Was it an overcast day (UK 'summer' 2011 - stupid question)? The colour looks a little dull to me, but it could just be the light. Thanks again for posting the pictures.

It certainly looked like Regency to me (my friend has a Regency +2)

The day was mainly dull, overcast, raining at times and ruddy chilly. A typical English summer day.

Yes it did looked redder in the flesh. To be honest the other car pictured earlier in the thread looks too red but again that could be down to cameras/monitors/ambient light etc

I really like the colour. Would look good on a Plus 2 IMHO. Not usually that keen on gold bumpers, but seems to suit in this combo. Thanks for posting.
