can anyone tell me what donor vehicle these Elan glovebox door hinges came off, or have suggestions of similar type?

Thanks

Oops - lost my reading skills today.
Sorry, don't know if they come from another car or unique to Lotus.

Hi Darren,
Those are hard to find. Can't help you with what other cars may have used the hinge. My Elan S3 had an original dash with a piano hinge. I replaced the dash for the another S3 type dash and it had the above type hinge setup. I could not find anyone who still made that hinge and did not think of other possible cars that may have used them. I found mine from one of our members who had a spare set.

good luck, Sarto

Darren,
There was a set of these hinges on the UK Ebay site not so long ago, so they do come up. Just have to be patient.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, there were a set on UK Ebay and I was bidding on them. They were 11 quid when I left the house that morning and my top bid was twice that, so I thought it would be ok....but it wasn't obviously. I may try to make some out of hinges available locally from a specialty woodworking shop.

I can't help but believe these were on another car, but everything I look at has some type of piano hinge. I'll sort it out eventually, and until then i guess I'll have a black hole in the dash.

All the Spitfire pilots I have seen flying have been wearing their gloves so I don`t think the would have had a glove box fitted

I seem to remember that they were from an Austin Westminster or its more rare brother the Vanden Plas 4 litre R...either way, there are probably less of those left that there are Elans!

If you want the hinges for a S2 you need the flat piano hinges that sit along the bottom of the lid, rather than those corner ones.

If you really want the corner ones, they are quite easy to get hold of. Every Plus 2 had them, and they are still being broken and appear on eBay a few times a year.

If you want pictures / sizes of the piano hinges, my S2 is in bits currently and I can take photos of them.

Darren,

If you have not found a set of these yet - I am parting out my 1970 Elan +2S (ser 0054N) and I'll check to see if these are the same. If you'll give me your email address I'll let you know. Before I put them on ebay I'll see if you want them at whatever the last winning bid was for the ones that came up and you didn't get.

I will have to go over to where I have the +2 stored and check out the dash and glovebox. Hope you already got what you needed but if not maybe these will work.
