I realize that this was quite a while ago, but do you happen to know/remember the bulb type for the 5w versions?

Search for 12v 5w mes e10 ..... but check first that your bulb holders are still the original type and have not been changed for something different.

This long forgotten thread reminded me that I changed all the bulbs in the instruments to an LED specifically designed for the purpose of improving the illumination of these old dial gauges by having a 360 degree spread.
From memory, I bought them locally to me from SVC. Link http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/led-inst ... screw-12v/

I'm sure you can get them from many sources.

Paul:

I ordered a new ammeter and it came with a 4W bulb. That's why I installed 4W bulbs in my other small gauges. I put 5W bulbs in the larger speedometer and tachometer. Seems to be about right as all of the gauges appear to be equally lit as well as readable.
