floating oil slinger

I'm just starting to rebuild a twin-cam fitted to a Lotus Seven S4 (couldn't afford an Elan, just the engine!) The car is someone elses unfinished project so I didn't actually strip the engine.
After replacing the timing case I notice the oil slinger on the front of the crankshaft is floating fore and aft by about 2.5 mm and rocking on the key (photo attached). The slinger is approx 7 mm deep. Crankshaft and jackshaft sprockets appear to line up so I think they are the correct parts.

Anyone have a clue where the problem arises, if it is indeed a problem?

Its been a long time since I was regularly building Kent engines but is it not clamped up tight when the crank pulley is fitted and the bolt torqued up?

Maybe yours is in the picture, its hard for my old eyes to see and for the brain to recall the images of years back!

Thanks for the excellent response Chancer.
I've just fitted the crankshaft pulley and nipped it up, to see the slinger nicely trapped and solid.

It's 45 years since I played with an engine and I have to blame Miles Wilkins because he doesn't mention fitting the crankshaft pulley until the sump, flywheel and clutch are on!

Thanks again ......I can now move on.
