Elan +2S Wheel & Tire Dimensions

PostPost by: tmrlotus+2 » Sun Mar 02, 2014 3:38 pm

I was finally able to get the wheels off and make some measurements to try and diagnose my tire issues.

With the 195/50R15s on my car (with 15x6" revolution wheels), the tire width is actually 7 3/8" -- the original 165HR13 noted by Stu was 5.8". My tire diameter was 22 3/4" -- the original 165HR13 was listed as 23.20", so the diameter is fairly close.

Finally, my wheel offset measured 19.05mm. Is that close to others?

I'm interested in the widths of other board members' tires -- has anyone else measured recently on a +2? I'm trying to figure out if I can just mount skinnier tires on these wheels (because mine do rub at times), or whether I need to change the wheels too. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Regards,
Mike

I just put 14" minilite wheels on my '69 +2 with Vredestein Sprint Classic - 165HR14 tires. The seller lists the tire dimensions as: Section Width (as distinct from tread width) 6.60 Overall Diameter 24.50.

Wow, that combination looks great. No issues with rubbing?

No rubbing issues thus far, but the weather around here has kept my driving distance down.
