USA: Elan tyres & inner tubes required

PostPost by: lottex » Thu Feb 20, 2014 4:11 pm

Hi, I've purchased a resto project S2 Elan on the East Coast . However the cars got 4 extremely tired flat tires /tyres. I need to source a set of new tires and tubes (as the rims are rough!) in order to get the car in a rolling state for shipping. Can anyone advise re a supplier/ website re getting a set of appropriate and ideally inexpensive tires delivered to the vendor of the car. Or reasonably priced top quality tires, eg Michelins ? Can anyone make any suggestions? Alternatively has anyone got a set of old but sound tyres that might fit the bill?
Thanks for any advice, Pete

Hi Pete. I just posted links for the Plus 2 Michelin and Vredestein tires at Coker Tire. Here are the similar tires for your two seater Elan. The Coker site doesn't seem to be cooperating very well for the model lookup feature right now.

Here is a budget option at WalMart & America's Tire

Try Universal Tire in Heresy PA. Much nicer to deal with and maybe a better price.

I am pretty happy with my Kumhos from Tire Rack. They remind me quite a lot of the Dunlop SP-4 that I ran for many years, not a bad thing. Though I have not tried the more expensive choices, I don't find myself tempted. The Kumhos just work, respond and communicate very well.

Anyone ever try these in the 165/65 size?

Apparently the Toyota Echo uses the same tire size 155 -13, which my help you find something (inexpensive new or used?- to by time for more tire research later once you get the car home), and also there should be stock around. (Elans not always listed in their directories ? :) )
