spare wheel clamp

PostPost by: umbyfer » Sun Mar 21, 2010 6:32 pm

Here attached the clamp for the spare wheel; anyone knows if it is correct and for which version? From the spare part list book I know that there are different kind/code of clamp.
I am looking one for the sprint version.

Thank you,
Umberto

That looks like a genuine original home made one to me  looks a tad heavy and I'm sure ACBC would frown at that!
As far as I remember my Sprint has a "U" shaped bracket with ends that are turned over, if no one else posts I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Hi Umberto,
My S4 clamp sounds the same as Brian's - see pic. There should be a threaded bobbin in the boot floor, looks like your home made version goes right through the floor with a nut on the bottom - could be your bobbin thread has been stripped?

the picture I posted is not my clamp, but what is on sale on ebay. (I don't have it and I am looking for all the parts; I only have a hole in the fiberglass...).
The pictur posted by Roger looks the same as from the book part list.

Hi Umberto,
The correct clamp would be simple enough to make. If you like I could do a drawing of mine with dimensions and PM it to you.

I was supposing that it easy to make it, but I would like to reproduce something exactly as original. Thanks a lot for the draw, sizes, included bolt/nut size, threaded bobbin in the boot floor and as much as possible info, included some pictures of everything.

Thank you,
Umberto

OK no problem. I will try to get it done tomorrow.

Umberto

I've just bought a replacement clamp from Susan Miller - it was about ?5 and looks the same shape as the original in the picture Roger posted.

Gee, I've got the bobbin in the floor but have never had the bolt/clamp at all. My spare however never moves a millimetre anyway.

I wonder how much that "Special" clamp will go for

Surprised it's not listed as "Very Rare Item difficult to find an original in this condition" or even NOS ..... presumably in this case it would indicate Not Old Scrap for those who may doubt what it is. :)
