New Steel Wheels for +2?

No it's not an attempt to get 3 gears on my avatar, but the main reason I am thinking about alloy wheels is to get rid of the buckle on the old wheels.
So I am posting this related topic to the Alloy Wheels one.
I understand that there are new thicker (and hopefully true) steel wheels out there. Sue Miller sells 4.5J x 13, But I might consider new 5.5J x 13. Anyone had any experience with them? How much? Who supplies them?

Dave, did you read the post "Straightening Steel Wheels" started around 26th October.
Please feel free to jump in anyone, but as far as I know, nobody is selling or manufacturing Plus 2 wheels in the UK.
Just a suggestion, would it be possible to take the "baby Elan" centre section (or get Sue Miller to get the centre section only supplied) and mate these up to commercially available 5.5" section 13" rims?. 13" steel rims are still supplied new for trailers. Cortina MkIIIs (new wheels) are available in 5.5" size.
Expense would probably dissuade all but the most determined. Or is just lack of demand with still a reasonable supply of 2nd hand steel and various after-market alloys available?
Regards
Gerry

Hi
I saw new steel wheels at Stoneleigh they were ?60 each, I almost bought a set. I am pretty sure Paul Matty sells them as well.
I have read on this forum that some people have had problems with new alloy wheel rubbing on the rear wishbone.
Sue Miller has them on her website, so she sells them
Hope this helps

Thanks for the Spyder info, but I have a feeling that the wheels are the old thin variety. I have heard that even a light curbing incident can put a buckle in them, and ignoring that I would still have to spin them up on a car and have a look at the run-out before buying.
Sue Miller is currently looking for some alloys for me. Once I have decided what to do I will publish anything worth communicating.
Cheers,
Dave Chapman.

Its interesting what everyone is saying about the steel wheels..
I am now inthe market fro some replacements as a result of an accident at the local tyre place..
I have a front wheel that was identified as buckled.
so I decided to replace it with the pristine spare (never been used in 30 years, still had the original tyre!)
took spare to the tyre shop to have a new cover fitted.
in taking of the old tyre they managed to slice the wheel rim (are they really that thin!)
they have managed to panel beat, weld it back to true, but now won't fit a tyre to it in case it happens again!!
Trouble is, I don't know whether I trust the wheel either!
