Wheel Offset

Last night I mounted a new tire on my spare rim, only to find out that my spare rim has a significantly different offset than the other 4.
On my 4 driving rims, the centre surface contacting the knock-off is nearly flush with the outer lip. On the spare rim, the locking surface is about 20mm below the lip surface.
Is this something the previous owner may have modified for a wider stance, or were the S3/4 cars with the flares equiped with such rims?
Rim is powder coated and now of no use to me. Anyone want it in exchange for a normal one? Pics and exact measurements to anyone interested.
