Rimbellishers

I have found a supplier of Elan Sprint chrome rimbellishers in Scotland, and I have ordered four. When they arrive I'll put up a post about their quality.
The same guy can also supply new chrome hubcaps for non knock-off Lotus wheels.

John,
Not that I need any but I seem to recall there are at least two types of those rim-trims, one a narrow type and one a wider type. Lotus used the narrow type, which types are these?

The supplier asssures me that the items are the correct Lotus type. His description over the phone matched the original rimbellishers on my Sprint. I'll find out when they arrive....

I'm pretty sure that the Ford ones as fitted to the 1300E Escort were as per original, although the fitment onto an Elan predates the 1300E by a few years. I bought a set from Paul Matty a few weeks ago for ?20 each....seem to be reasonable quality. Well, as good as the originals anyway
So John, upset me...how much were yours?!

I'm pretty sure they were fitted to much earlier cars than the 1300E
Unless my memory is failing me the same embellishers were fitted to BMC Vanden Plas 1100's which go back to 1963ish

The rimbellishers that I have ordered have the chrome teeth, as have the old tatty items that are on the Sprint. Are these not the correct Lotus type of rimbellisher?

Yes, the teeth that gouge the finish on your wheels as you fit them
I push them on with plenty of waxoyl on the sharp bits ......... not sure if it helps but I do it anyway

Further investigation has revealed that the rimbellishers I bought are a little different to the ones taken off my S4. The teeth aren't as long, and the recess for the valve isn't as deep...and they look pretty cheap and nasty...I'd be surprised if they lasted a winter if the car was used in the wet and salt.
In contrast, the ones I bought many moons ago (maybe 1986) were the same as the ones taken off my S3. They came in Ford bags from Miles Wilkins...hence I knew that they were off the 1300 E. They look as good today as when I fitted them.
I hope yours are better than the ones I've just bought John!
