Does anyone have recent first hand experience of using crossply road tyres?

They were state of the art when we were using ox carts!
The last car I had with these was a 1960 Sunbeam Alpine i bought in 1966 and I got rid of those tires for radials in 1967.
I didn't think anyone made them any more.
