Octagonal nuts size

Hi all,
My +2's wheels has octagonal nuts instead of 3 eared spinners.
My current tool used to open them is kind of rusty and I was thinking of using a socket and a long handle instead.
Does anyone know what is the accurate size I need? Is it metric or Imperial?

64 mm or 2.5 inches (in fact a touch over) - not the sort of thing you can expect to find in too many tool shops.

Currently no idea what size the nuts are.
I'm at work at present but I'll be home in an hour and will put a caliper across the flats and post the size here.

Many many moons ago when I had my +2 the guy I bought it from had a spanner made out of 3/8" thick plate(it was tear drop in shape) to fit over the nuts. It had a slight kink in it to clear the wheel. Then had a piece of square tube approx 24" long welded to the stem of the spanner. This was for me just a nice size to get a reasonable push on the nut for both tightening and loosening. In other words I didn't have to go overboard with force in either direction.

So get it powder coated or nickel plated. It is OE, after all.

Liad,

I confirm 2.5 inches across the flats. (sorry I couldn't get to a working PC last night).

Be careful which nuts you have. The ones on my car are 2.5 ins + a couple of b/hs.
I have spare couple of new nuts and they seem to be tapered from 2.4 ins at the outside to 2.55 at the shoulder. The wheel spanner (a fabricated thing with a 3ft long handle, P/O said it was original :shock: ) doesn't like the tapered nuts and keeps slipping off :? .
