A proper period sports car tyre in the size 145HR13

There hasn't been much interest from major tyre manufacturers recently to make a proper 13" tyre for you guys other than Michelin making a 155HR13 XAS which is a great tyre. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/catalo ... gory/8918/ I used to run a 165HR13 XAS on a Zetech engined Cortina. they are brilliant.
For the earlier cars Pirelli make a 145R13 Cinturato CA67 https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/145-r- ... -ca67.html Thiis tyre is perfect as it is a fenuuine period sports car radial tyre. (hence the H Speed rating) instead of just a cheapo tyre that happens to be the right size. the Cinturato has a suitable carcass. modern compounds, but a tread pattern that is period.
Michelin developed the Michelin X first radial and patented it in 1946, and they were readily available and offered as an option on the Traction Avante from 1949
Pirelli developed the Cinturato CA67 (Or Cintura) in 1952. It was developed to be the radial tyre for sports cars so it maintained the improved longevity and grip of the X, but importantly, for the rear wheel drive cars of the day, the Cinturato massively improved the progressive handling. The Cinturato also was able to withstand the speeds of the cars it was fitted to as OE such as the Lancia Aurelia, Ferrari 250, Maserati 3500 and of course the Lotus Elite! (like mine). If you asked for radial tyres on your David Brown Aston Martin they also fitted radials.
Do any of you guys fit 175/70VR13 tyres, because Pirelli also now make this https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/catalo ... gory/8918/ original escort Mexico tyre. Personally i wouldn't want to over tyre the car. I would stick to the OE size. However if you want to fit an oversized tyre a period carcass like the CN36 will handle much better than a modern tyre carcass design.

Nope the Pirelli Cinturato is nothing like a Vredestein. The Cinturato is a genuine high quality classic tyre that looks good.
The 175/70VR13 Cinturato CN36 https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/175-70 ... -cn36.html weighs 7.445kg. I don't have a CR6ZZ on the shelf today.
because the CN36 is a period tyre i don't think it has to conform to most of the modern car tyre legislation. so i don't believe it has a UTQG rating
In the US the Cinturato range is distributed by Lucas classic tyres https://www.lucasclassictires.com/175-7 ... 757013.htm give them a tinkle they will know more about US legislation.

I spent so much time researching tires on this forum. I figured I’d pay it back by sharing the tires I finally settled on.
Last month I order the 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 from Longstone.
I’m very please with the results. Period correct look. Handles great.

Cinturato came out in 1952. It was the sorts car radial tyre for some years. The other radial are the time was the Michelin X. But the Cinturato was the sports car tyre which is why Ferrari, Maserati, MG, Lamborghini, etc fitted them.
And my Lotus Elite came fitted with 155-15 Cinturato.
Yep sometimes they were called Cintura.
The Dunlop SP Sport came out in 1968. The current tyres are not actually manufactured by Dunlop sadly. Dunlop currently don’t make any historic road tyres. Though some of their racing tyres are road legal.
I have Dunlop Racing tyres on my other Elite that I have a part share in.
The radial equivalent to the 520-13 cross ply tyre that the early cars fitted is 145-13. Which is why the new Cinturato is the best tyre for these cars. When you fit them you will notice they are taller than everything else.
Come and see me when the virus is finished. Of course it will be even better when Pirelli make a 155-13 CA67 later this year. Then they will make a 165-13 CN36 https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pirell ... -cn36.html For the +2 hopefully this year.
