Spinner question again..

PostPost by: KevJ+2 » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:51 pm

Carl,
I've only been in touch with them quite recently, but I'm now upto 13 emails trying to pin Lee down for answers.
First, he wanted pictures of my parts - fair enough I suppose. So for a front and rear bumper, 4 spinners and two front sidelight/indicators, he quoted ?300 which as I'm sure, anyone on here will think is great.
When I arrived there, there was quite a bit of head shaking and sucking of breath noises, but someone else was there and they did the same to him, so I didn't feel picked on
He said there was no way to cover the holes in my rear mazak light surrounds, which I guessed anyway. He then went on to talk about 'roughing out' the bumpers at which point I told him about not wanting to lose the lower lip on the rear bumper which he said could happen. End result, I told him to leave the rear bumper
So, how much now to do the rest? - two emails later and no price but confirmation of what I want.
In fourteen weeks, I'll let you know how much he decides to charge - I think it's the only way I'm going to know!

Lee quoted me ?20/25 + VAT each by email when I contacted him last month ..

Carl,
There seems to be a company - Ashford Chroming, in Kent who advertise in Cambridge and Huntingdon areas, but I wonder if they have collection points in those areas (I think Mackays in Cambridge is one) and them send them down to Kent? No idea! Or there's MFS in Huntingdon, don't know about them either.

Kev,
Thanks I saw Ashford Chroming but was put off by the fact they they try to appear local when they are clearly not..

I really dislike companies who do this ...

Will contact MSF next week..

couple of years ago Lee charged me ?180 to straighten out and rechrome an original +2 bumper with lip.
it came back perfect . .... a week after i installed it a 19yo lad drove into the back of it at 30mph whilst he was texting his girlfriend . I now have a very shiny flattened bent ripped rear bumper which I'm not sure what to do with....

Rich,
Yeah, I can't see how he has the room to store 14 weeks worth of work. Maybe the more sensible (Obviously not me  ) book their work in.
I left two rear bumpers with him to rough out but after his reaction to them, I've left them there. He said it would cost about ?100 to do the roughing out but I decided not to risk it.
If your'e down that way, you can have a look at them and see what you think.

Dropped a set of spinners off at MSF in Huntingdon this morning. Seems they are quite used to rechroming spinners. They said it would take about 4 weeks (but could be quicker) and quoted ?20 each to do them. One of the spinner had a chip missing off the end so it will be interesting to see how they come out. Will report back with photos after they are done ..

At least they are local to me so no postage costs to worry about.

Finally got my chrome work back from Hockley Enterprises, Southend and I must say that I'm very pleased with the results!!
Apparantly the really rude and off-hand employee they had when I first went, has now left after working there for 30 years and by Lee (the owner's) own admission, he was too rude and drove customers away.
Anyway, they are now down to 9 weeks waiting time as he now has "a better system'"
Here are some pics. I think you'll agree that the spinners are a transformation!

Just wondering if Carl was happy with the spinners he had chromed from MSF, haven't seen anything posted up here since so was wondering if he had any feedback to compare with the results from Kev?

Actually, the monkey metal was about what I expected. The small pitted marks remain but the overall look is shiny and good. He did write off one front light surround by polishing through the edge but I didn't expect miracles. New rear lights are about ?234 each from SJ Sportscars, so I'm happy not to have to buy them! (It only cost me ?16 more to chrome everything in the first photo!).
