I wondered who'd be first to spot that!
Quite right, it's only the alarms that wouldn't work perfectly.

In case anyone is interested . . .
Speaking of "weight", I took the opportunity to weigh my rims with and without tyres on our bathroom scales. Results?
4.5-inch rim - without tyre: 13.0 lbs - with 155/80 R13 Uniroyal RainExpert: 25.5 lbs
5.5-inch rim - without tyre: 13.0 lbs - with 165/80 R13 Uniroyal RainExpert: 28.0 lbs
Rims are standard Lotus centrelock. Tyres are brand new with full tread.

There do seem to be sensors that monitor blow out's
A TPMS is the fundamental portion of this system.
I have had a few tyres blow. After stopping the vehicle. It tends to appear that a rock/object has intruded into said tyre. After one revolution or more...Heat pressure cornering etc have the right influence on tyre and it blows
I am not sure the systems used in aftermarket are quality enough for warranting playing with tyres on and off rims.
But if you could just brake the bead to change sensor, or the valve stem cap....
I have luckily only had rears blow. On gravel roads. I hate to think of a front going in my Elan. But good new tyres should help !

Sorry have not replied lately to this.
But a blow out can be caused by a slow leak (nail rock puncture etc), which has happened to me before. Once the tyre gets under-inflated it looses it's ability to hold sidewall. this allows pressure out or a blow out.
if one were to monitor their tyre pressure while driving, alarms go off when it falls to below 15-25%. One could save the possibility of this.
How does one know if they have run over a rock nail etc while driving. (sure you know when you hit a curb if that is an option for anyone) The only way is a TPMS.
I for one prefer the sound of my engine to the radio. So the spot that permitted a radio I would like to have for TPMS but I dont see any close in size.
If anyone ever sees one that fits a radio, or a radio that can monitor tyre pressure. I sure would like to know please and thanks.
