Tires (revisit by a newbie)

I have also been looking at tires 155x80x13 in the US. I?m surprised to see the Vredestein sprint plus at $80 from Coker and remember them in the high $40 earlier this year. The other best option appears to be Kumbo Solas KR21 and possibly Bridgestone RE92 Potenza?s. There are other 'Unknown makes? from tireseasy.com and the Michelins are now nearly $300/each.

Is there any difference between the Vredestein sprint plus and the Vredestein sprint

Based on what is currently available in the, which is the best selection for less than $1200/set?.
Where is the most reasonable vendor to purchase?
The tires are for fitting on 5? knockon minilites to an S4. I?m assuming this is the best size selection for this car (Please correct me if I?m wrong)

Tire selection in the US is a moving target, and therefore historic posting are no longer current.

I found in my book of invoices That my tires were bought in may 2007 ! Even if they are not worn out, they may dry like pieces of Wood.

I think i Will ask santa a set of michelin xas

If that's your preference, but I think they're probably only at half-life yet, unless they're badly worn.

At long last!!! The tyres I ordered in June have finally arrived. Uniroyal RainExpert 155/80 R13 T (front on 4.5 inch rims) and 165/80 R13 T (rear on 5.5 inch rims). I chose these tyres based on grip and characteristics. We get a lot of rain in the west of Ireland and I have RainExperts on my daily driver and am very pleased with them in the wet. In addition they are closer in style to the 1960s tyres (sidewall not tread pattern) and I want to retain the handling characteristics of the car. Now I have work to do on the front suspension, brakes and electrics but the weather has just turned cold again so it may be a few weeks before I'm back on the road. :(

Tyre manufacturers recommend a maximum life of between six and ten years as the internal degradation due to aging is not visible yet may result in delamination. The tyres I took off my car looked and felt like new but they were approaching ten years old so I ditched them and told the tyre dealer to slit the sidewalls as I didn't want to be responsible for someone else's accident. I took the opportunity to strip and paint the wheels while awaiting new tyres. I collected the new Uniroyals yeaterday and the manufacturing dates were Week 5 of 2013 and Week 8 of 2013 so I'm good for a while now. I've done research in this area and I would not drive a car with tyres older than ten years no matter what they look like.
