Has anyone Yokohamas A021s 185/70/13 on their +2?

How are you?

I never put Yoko's on my +2, though could be tempted in the future.

I have Vredestien Sprint 80's on the back and Hankook Optima's on the rest. All 165/80 13's.

I found the Vredestiens great when I had them on all four wheels. Good wet and very good dry traction and handling.

Had a nightmare when I put the Hankooks on to replace two worn Vredestiens. Initially they went on the back...and the car drove like the back was on ice....the back was all over the place.

I then put them on the front and hey presto....all was well again

This COULD have been due to badly worn rear bearings (which I have since changed) but the Vreds were fine on the back....the Hankooks not......in a simple swap.

Would gladly go back to Vredestiens all round again when the time comes, or maybe try the Yoko's...

I use my car as an all year round daily driver.

Lethal to mix tyres on the same axle. Not very wise to fit different tyres front and back. As your experience plainly shows, they do behave differently

I'm pretty happy with the handling as is at the moment, and the Optimas seem to provide good braking stickiness

It's worked out pretty well.

Would be nice to put either the Dunlop's or Michelin on but trying to justify the price is hard, I've got the original rear springs and seats so I don't know if I could get by with 185's, trawled through everything in the archives on tyres. Any other recommendations?

31 year old wheels are one thing but 31 year old tyres, no matter how much tread remains and how good they look, are likely to be lethal! Rubber degrades with time and delamination at even moderate road speeds may have catastrophic results. Tyres more than 10 years old should not be driven on any vehicle. If a Lotus owner doesn't care about his own safety, then at least think of the damage to the car!!!

I currently have old Michelin XAS 185/70 13 on the original center lock wheels. I have just started to autocross the car and the tires have no grip for the task; they have been great on the road and in the rain.

So I am contemplating second set of wheels and tires. I thought the only option was the Panasport wheels which are 13x5". that leaves me with the Yoko A021 as my most likely choice tire. However, I just recently found out that Minilite make 14x5 and 14x5.5 that supposed to fit the car. There are a lot more options of tires in 14". Will these 14" Minilites fit the car and what size tires will fit? I have a good list of tire types already for them.

I just went on Yoko web site and they do not show the A021S or R tire. They only seem to have the A048 now. The closest size they have is 185/60/13. Are the A021's still available or only out of old stock?

I believe it is the "control tyre" for UK oval racing, If you have a Seven you can get them even cheaper!

I bought A021 185/70/13 from Camskills this winter and I tested them on the road yesterday. No problems at all with clearance on my +2. I had michelin energy 175/70/13 on last year.
The yokos are much wider, because of the width and because the profile is rectangular compared to energy tyres who are more U-shaped in profile. I expected heavy steering, but I hardly noticed any difference...

Thanks for the information Ulf, do you have standard rear springs or the small diameter adjustable ones?

Looks like Yokohama have stopped producing the "S" and only the "R" is avaliable now...

Hi Innes, I have adjustable TTRs in front and original wide springs in the rear. Ride height is set with 5-6 cm in gap between tyre and body
