Hi kstrutt11,
Some questions about your 175s (as 165s with proper ratings are geytting harder to get )
- Is there any arch/suspension rub on the front of the car?
- How has your speedo reading been affected
- Braking?
@Terry
Lotus +2 steering floppy! Well, maybe compared to a 7....but....
Thanks in advance,
Peter

When I said floppy it doesn't feel now as direct as it did (Before the Seven) my concern is that if I change the tyres to 165's it will be worse (To me)
@ Jeremy Steering joint is fiine , I think it the UK you may do a bit more parallel parking
@ kstrutt , I thought about 175/70's but the rolling diameter is slightly less and I'm concerned I will lose the current look. 165/80's are about the same rolling diameter as 185/70's which I have at present
Back to work...

Stiffened steering is the last thing I want! Suspension maybe... I find giving the nipples a quick grease to lube up the trunnions does it for me - nice and easy does it. We all need to get out more..

a little reminder, if you're using original lotus plus2 alloy wheels do'nt forget to fit inner tubes. there is no tyre bead retaining safety rib machined on them!!

Hi. I'm looking for a set of tyres too. From the discussion so far it seems that the a drive Yokohama 175/70 13 would be a good one to go for. The mention of inner tubes has me concerned though, as I thought these were not actually required unless the rims had gone porous. Can others confirm for me please. Thanks.

I have 175/70 R13 since three years, Michelin Energy....
Steering sharp and very good grip, but I suspect this has more to do with weight distribution and suspension geometry rather than tyre mark. However I find 175/70 does not fill wheelarches as much as I want, so I will probably go for 185/70 next time...

I attach a pic of an original Lotus Alloy, with no inner ribs, for info. I believe the later replacements sold by PM had the ribs - difficult to check with the tyre on!

Mine has standard suspension and There are no fouls to the arches, at the rear the spring seats are flattened slightly to give a bit more clearance.
The speedo reading seems fine certainly 30mph is spot on with the signs which flash up and tell you your speed.
The grip under braking is massively improved over the old Michelins previously fitted.

I found out why it was floppy .... my anti roll bar was broken! At the connection point to the shock absorber , clear through.
Luckily a local French Artisan fixed it perfect by re making the end
