Knockoff's, Panasports and Greased Threads

Safety wire is a nice concept.

But it is used to prevent small bolts from loosening under vibration.

The safety wire and wrenches that I have seen just do not have the strength to deal with a center lock nut backing off.

As some one commented, it just gives you some time, maybe.

But has been described, dry threads, clean surfaces, good quality mounting, and 200 ft-lbs of torque do the trick.

If a wheel comes off under those circumstances, then something is wrong with the wheel or hub.

Hi Jason, the photos of the pegs seem to be all a little different, one seems real short. The wheel does not look like the holes are out of shape, a bit scared but that is hard to tell with the photo. If you put in new pegs and set the wheel back on snug but NOT torqued and then turn the wheel in both direction to see if you get any movement or play. If you do, the holes are probably damaged. Others may have some suggestions.
With Panasports you get only 4 holes working in either direction at a time. I have never heard of a failure using just the panasports hole layout.
Talk to Dave or Ken at Dave Bean Engineering and they can let you know about the two available pegs. Which one depends on the hub you have.

Thanks Sarto. The wheel felt pretty tight when I put it back on and no, the holes did not look out of shape. The pegs were all the same except for the one that was smaller. I think it came with the car and the mechanic put in the others.

I guess there's nothing left to do but go out for a drive and see how it goes. Oh yeah, after I remove the grease from the three sides.
