Wheel peg holes worn

PostPost by: Mileso » Wed Mar 08, 2023 10:29 am

I had a little issue yesterday..
Took the S4 out after checking brakes etc and rear wheel came very loose (I presume my error not tightening up....grrrr)

Checked it this morning - spinner threads look OK but peg holes a little worn. Should I be concerned and fit the spare or is it OK as they are under torque load most of the time?

If not - is there a repair or am a seeking a new wheel?

are all 5 holes enlarged in all directions like this one appears? and/or could the peg been worns out as well (pegs can be replaced)? or is this wheel different from all others...

When the wheel is torqued down the contact between pegs and wheel is along a radius. When the wheel nut is loose at the rear usually it takes very little time between the wheel starts cloncking then getting off to freedom...

I've had slightly elongated peg holes on a wheel causing the spinner to work loose. I moved the wheel from the rear to the front and it is fine, been like that for years and I've had no problem. The rear has reverse torque i.e. both ways, drive and braking, thus working the spinner loose. The front does not, it has braking only. I have marked the wheel on the inside 'mount only on front axle'.

I had one wheel with enlarged holes. A restoration shop drilled new holes and welded up the old ones. They didn't seem to think it anything outside the norm. :)
We are supposed to be having fun, are we not?
