Elan plus 2 tyre

PostPost by: Dieschelan » Tue Mar 06, 2018 6:56 pm

Hi

Which is the best tyre for a elan plus2? Is it the Michelin XAS FF? Always looking in 165 R13 and 185 70 R13 what's the best option?

Regards

After talking to these guys recently http://www.blockleytyre.com/page2.htm#prices
I reckon I will give them a try as they have a good reputation with many classic and vintage owners.

Ive been looking this for mine, i currently have verdistien sprints that are cracking due to age.

I came across "oponeo" while looking. They have a Duraturn Mozzo 4s thats mid ?30s. EU rating has it at C and B for Fuel efficiency and wet grip respectively. DB is at 70.
Having looked around these are good stats for the price and better than some at over twice the price.
I dont know if these would be considered as the best but on price they seem good.
I am still looking and was considering Advan A021R,
Nankang econex na1,
Hankook kinenergy,

To me the importance for a new set of 4 is high levels of wet weather performance without using a soft compound. Yours may be different

I looked at those Solus but the ratings are wrong way round for me, B on fuel and C on wet weather. According to the blurb i read each letter is approx 3m extra in braking distance.
My wifes PHEV has just had new Toyo proxes cf2 fitted at front. They feel good and you can hear theyre quieter. Cant comment on performance as the traffic is a nightmare here.
They come in lotus friendly sizes too so perhaps another option.

Thank you for your replies. Has someone experience with the Michelin XAS in the plus 2? The Michelin needs tubes? Is better to put 185/70 R13?
I'm interested in a dry tyre.

Pirelli now make a 185/70VR13 Cinturato CN36 which is a genuine period tyre designed to work with a car like the Elan. that would be the best tyre in that size. And it is made by a reputable tyre manufacturer.

i'd say you're overdoing it with XAS on +2 . its a lovely robust tyre and i had them on my citroen DS safari for years.
you'd never wear them out on a +2

Avon tyres are good on a +2 .
A good measure is what a tyre tread looks like at the edge after hard cornering round a track . I remember a few years ago comparing with a load of other +2s on a track day and mine (still on the car) held out the best .

I have these(Dunlop D83J) and find them a very good choice over the standard tires available form most suppliers. They work great in the dry and wet.....
