Wheel restoration

PostPost by: pauljones » Mon Mar 05, 2018 5:02 pm

I just got a quote for a restoration of one plus 2 alloy wheel. ?125 plus vat.
Thats just to burn of the old paint, "because blasting wont get it all off. We do hundreds of old wheels each year for the classic boys"
And a respray in silver.

No checking for warping or anything other than a burn and paint.

Seems a bit much to me, not much cheaper than a new one.

Edit to add Paul Matty is ?150 plus vat for a new one. No brainer for ?25 extra.

Local place in Lincolnshire advertises ?50 - ?60 per wheel to strip and refurbish, price depends a bit on wheel size and spoke pattern. Haven?t used them myself but know people who have. Looks like they heard the words classic car and are taking the mickey. Diamond cutting will be more and not all wheel refurbishers can offer this.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine!

Hi Paul,
Why don't you give Silver Wheels a call in Ferndown? Not so far away from you. They did a complete refurb on one of my wifes Audi TT wheels for ?84. ( cheaper if I had all four done). The wheel looks brand new.
My plus 2 alloys are looking a bid jaded now, so when I raise the cash I will ask them for a quote on all five wheels. (no affiliation you understand)
Regards
Jeff

Silver wheels.
Almost 300 the four but only one colour.
125 plus vat to match/diamond cut each wheel.
This could be an expensive restoration
