I presume you have the Lotus Alloys?
These have a very shallow well in the centre and many tyre fitters have trouble fitting tyres to them. Find a racing tyre supplier as these are normally better at fitting difficult tyres.
Standard tyres were originally 165 / 75 or 80 profile x 13

The metal in the original Lotus alloys was also very soft and sometimes the clamps on the tire change machine that hold the wheel on the machine can take a chunk out of the rim. Tell your tire changer that and ask them to turn down the clamp air pressure to avoid that problem also.
I don't know if this problem exists with the modern replica Lotus alloys you can buy these days, I would hope the alloy casting is a better quality.

Kurt, I went with the Vredestein Sprint's from Coker Tire. I find them great for the Plus 2, very progressive and forgiving. have also had them on the track a couple of times. I much prefer them to 175/70/13's I had before.

Coker also has the Michelin XAS, but they were too dear for me...

Ross Robbins found some nice 155/80/13's for his Elan for about half the cost, but I could not order them in Canada.

I have some nice 155/80 Falken's on a midget that I really like but, unfortunately, it turns out that they were a closeout. I changed all four tires on my bug-eye from 165/80's to 155/80's because I ruined one and couldn't find a replacement. Nice to know that Coker still has 165/80's even if they are a bit spendy Vredisten's. Can't seem to find good tube's anymore either but have been advised that Coker has them as well.
Thanks Stu
