Refinish aluminum wheels w/oven cleaner

Has anyone refinished their aluminum wheels with oven cleaner on this board (see attached link)? I'm thinking about trying it on my Revolutions wheels. Thanks in advance.

I used oven cleaner to clean up an aluminum cased transmission. I figured if I screwed up, I could paint it. Actually, it worked great. The cleaner removed all the grime, old paint, dirt and corrosion, leaving a very shinny case. I did this a couple of years ago and the case still looks great, though a bit dusty. Never tired it on aluminum wheels. It did not seem to pit the aluminum, so I would guess it would not hurt the machine finished portion of the wheels. But, I would try it on the inside of the wheel on a very small area first. Years ago, I used Revolution wheels on a race car, but never tried to clean them with oven cleaner, just brake cleaner.

I use oven cleaner to strip paint from my plastic model kits and slot cars I restore. To this date it has never touched the plastic but is brilliant at getting old Humbrol paint off! I'd be surprised if it touched the Aluminium.
