Sticky tyres options

PostPost by: gordont » Wed May 01, 2013 10:32 am

I currently have A048 175/60/13 on front and 185/60/13 on the rear of my S2 with 26r guards and 6" rims.
Looking for new tyres and thinking 70 profile tyres and came across Avon CR6ZZ in 175/70/13 seem like a good road legal option.
Anyone with experience in these?
Cheers

Hi Gordon, I seem to recollect that the Shapecraft that Dave Hughes repaired had those tyres on and that the owner did rallies in it, maybe worth asking Dave for his details to ask directly.

Let me know what his response is as I'm thinking of them for the Seven on the mag wobbly web wheels.

Cheers

I have used them on an Elite type 14. Very sticky and not a particularly long life.

Thanks guys thinking will give the 175/70/13 a shot and see, the a048 lasted about 8000 miles so if I can get that out of these I will be happy and 70 profile would look bett and give me a tad more clearance.

I have the 175 Avons (medium compound) fitted to my S3. Definitely sticky, not sure about longevity. I'll update after Tour Britannia, which I am doing in 10 days! The tyres are heavy, tall (70 profile) and only just fit the rear arches. They were recommended to me by Tony Thompson as the best for 'fast road / mild competition'
I think my next choice may be the Michelin XAS FFs.

I too am thinking XAS FF. If I recall correctly, there are 2 candidate sizes available, a 155HR13 and a 165HR13. Right now I'm thinking the 165's fitted to 5" Panasport KO's, adjustable spring perches, and perhaps TTR 26r front wishbones.

Do you think the 165's will fit an S2 without fouling anything over the bump/droop/turn range of travel?
