s4 spare wheel clamp

PostPost by: jmp » Mon Sep 10, 2012 8:58 am

Has anyone got a pic of the spare wheel clamp for an S4 that they could e-mail me please. I'm assuming it has one as there is a bobbin in the middle of the wheel where it sits in the boot.
Thanks, John

John,
You can see it in the Elan parts manual at RD Enterprises' web set:
http://www.rdent.com/manuals/index.html
Click on "Elan", then "Body", then "Attachments". The clamp is Item #20, 036 B 0599. There seem to be different bolt lengths dpeneding on whether you have bolt-on or peg-drive wheels.

Here is what I have in my Sprint, I made the bolt into a ?wing bolt? for ease of use.

Thanks very much both of you,
Just what I needed particularly the photos. At least now I can make something up similar till I get the chance to buy one.

Here is my spare wheel clamp, which looks like Roger's. I had it chromed in the late 70s (sorry about that, but I was young then).

Here's an idea, employed in that photo. I cut off the head of a long stainless steel bolt of the right size and thread, then bent the shank to make that handle. Two nuts secure the clamp loosely to the handle, so it doesn't come off.

Been away for a few days so only just catching up. Clamp made earlier today along with some new boot boards.

I knew that there was one hiding someplace, took a while to find as it was where it is supposed to be. :)
