elan wheel on +2

PostPost by: rdssdi » Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:34 pm

A friend has offered me an Elan KO wheel (13 x 41/2) to use as a spare on my +2. Will this fit?

Should I purchase a 13 x 5 1/2 as original?

Hello Bob,

Yes it will fit and function as a space saver spare which I presume is legal as they now supply them with new cars.

A better bet, however would be to get a +2 wheel and donate the wheel to the Norfolk Rest Home for unloved Elan wheels  :D

To be serious, you should have no problem finding a wheel on Ebay or indeed via Wanted on this forum. Plus 2 plain steels tend to sell very cheaply. The part chrome ones are a different matter because it's becoming difficult to find them with good chrome. That said, to live in the boot all you really need is a plain steel one anyway.

EDIT Just noticed you are stateside so I may have just written a load of tosh  Certainly in the UK quite a few +2's have been broken for spares over the last couple of years and wheels seem to come up for sale often.

The 4.5J wheel would certainly get you home in the event of a flat ......I can't comment on legality in the states, it's confusing enough in the UK :?

Are you in the UK?

I have a spare +2 steel wheel. It's solid, straight and true but it has cosmetically seen better days. I was hanging on to it as it as it might come in handy one day but PM if your interested.

Cheers, Ian
