MiniLites Again

Can anyone tell me if the centre ring on the knockon minilites is.....

i) A press fit
ii) Slight tap fit
iii) Just place in and tighten up

reason I ask is just fitted tyres to two of them and there is runout on one. :(

Just place in and tighten; they were glued in when I got them, that lasted about ten minutes.

I second Pete's reply
They should be just place in and tighten up.

What do you mean by run out? is the wheel running out of true or the tyre (badly seated). Are the wheels new or second hand, it's not unknown for them to get buckled after an excursion into a pothole or 3.

Give the hub faces and back of the wheels a good clean with a wire brush and try again.

Brand new wheels...

I had to fit to the hub and tw@t the centre disc in...

So now i'll tw@t them out and remove the excess paint... Hope this solves the issue...

Confused of Tunbridge Wells here :? The centre discs are for the spinners to seat against, why would they cause the wheels to run out of true. Are you sure the wheels are seating against the hubs and lining up correctly with the pegs.

I'm probably missing the point, it's a mixture of advancing years and lack of practical application :wink:

I'm presuming that if the cup is not square the wheel will not seat properly on the hub. The run out was pronounced on the balancing machine. Anyway emoved the excess paint anf the cup now fits easily. Will take the other two wheels tomorrow and report back.

ps the number of weights was outrageous... 85 gms..... maybe a wheel issue

Mark,
Are the tyres new also?
Can you check the run-out of the hub with a dial indicator?
Are some of the drive pegs binding in the wheel holes and preventing it seating properly?

Some news...

Spoke to minilite, they said probably not suare on the hub, try taking a DA sander to the paint to flat down...WTF brand new wheels and take a sander to them... anyway flatted them off with 400 W&D now smooth aa a babies bum.

Also tw@ted all the centre rings out and rubbed down the excess paint, now they are nice fit.

So this am took the bad wheel back and the other two wheels to have the tyres fitted. The wobbly wheel was now fine, looks like either the centre ring or hub flange, don't know which, had to re-balance that wheel.

Anyway the other two wheels were fine except one took 100g to balance....

Will wait and see what happens...

looks like you are getting sorted, just a pity that Minilite seem to have dropped the ball with their quality control.

If it's any consolation I have minilite copies (Minators) on my +2, they are bolt on pattern rather than knock on and were supplied as part of the Zetec package done by Spyder. I used to get terrible steering wheel wobble between 65 and 75 mph, so decided to get the 2 fronts re-balanced, the nearside was fine, but the offside needed 65 grams and the guy balancing the wheels mentioned it was slightly running out, removing all the paint on the back of the rim cured that and the car is nice to drive at 70 now.

I put it down to wheels produced to a low price and wished I had insisted on Minilites, but it seems not.
