Hub caps

Hi all,
I have a 1967 S3 with bolt on wheels. Although I have a set of hub caps, they are a bit batterred, scratched and worse for wear. I have noticed that a company called A.M. Classical (http://www.classiccarparts-uk.co.uk/Lotus) sell "new" (remanufactured) Elan hub caps for abot GBP20 each. As it will cost a fair amount in postage to get them to New Zealand, I was wondering whether anyone had bought these and what they were like compared to the original, or whether there are any other (more competitive) suppliers that stock these. They look nice and shiny in the photos!
Thanks

As far as I know that is a good price as these items were once hard to come by. At ?20 that's possibly cheaper that a re-chrome. Not been aware of those guys before so I can't vouch for the quality. They do look the part in the picture. Pity they don't say where they are based as if it is London I could spin over and see if they fit.

I think the price is quite reasonable, as it would probably cost a lot more to strighten my ones out and get them rechromed. However, postage adds quite a lot more to them, so it would cost me more than GBP100 to get a set and post them to NZ. My rim embelishers seem oK, and they don't stock other items of interest that I can see so can't bulk up a purchase (to minimise postage impact). NZ dollar against the pound is quite good at the moment so might bite the bullet and order a set then let you know what they are like, unless someone else out there can offer advice.

Hi Skittle,
I bought 4 of these hub caps in 2006 for my Lotus Seven with Elan wheels, but never used them, as I sold the wheels shortly later, because the correct wheels for my Seven are from Triumph Hearald.
The Elan hub caps have been stored dry and are as new. If you are interested, I will sell all 4 for 65 ? + postage with royal mail.
Best regards

I bought a set of 4 hubcaps from a company in the UK called Blue Yonder, they were 59.99 plus 16.73 shipping (GBP) in 2006. These look very similar to the ones I bought. After almost 6 years they still look pretty good today, although after about 6 months the upper layer of chrome on one of them peeled off a bit, not horrible but certainly disappointing, the other 3 haven't had the same problem occur.
Hope this helps,
Steve
