Sticky tyres (cup)

I`ve long been sceptical of having these super sticky track day but road legal (cup) tyres on a road car. The one time you need extra grip is in the wet and I read that you shouldn`t use them in ambient temperatures below 8 degrees C. Three weeks ago a pal wrecked his Cayman on a cold wet day, on a slight curve on a dual carriageway.
Anyway, to Elans, I`ve recently been recommended to Tim at Riverside Engineering in Whaley Bridge. An all round top bloke, a proper engineer who`s customers seem to have the right stuff. I asked for the Elan to have a big service and MOT and good check round for anything untoward. He found quite a few minor, overlooked items and I`m really pleased. Another of his customers bought the yellow Elan at Race Retro and it was in for a new waterpump and general re-commisioning a few weeks ago. He was telling me that the car was on these sticky tyres, had loads of grip but just didn`t feel right. New road tyres of the right size have transformed the car. It feels like an Elan again even if it would be marginally slower on a track.
