PostPost by: mr fixit » Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:19 pm

I'd like to think about a differant set of wheels for mine but want to maintain the era;-
Can anyvbody tell me what wheels were availabe for the plus 2 as options when it was sold over and above the standard pressed steel.
Not really sure what I've let myself in for yet

The Lotus alloy knock on wheel was the only other wheel used on the Plus 2. You will see lots of examples in pictures on the site. Your other option these days are the minilite style knock on made by various people these days.

There were three standard wheels....the painted steel, the chrome steel and the Lotus Alloy. All three look superb, although you're unlikely to find a chrome in good condition now, and they cost a fortune to re-furbish.

There were three popular aftermarket wheels. The Wolfrace wheel was fairly popular on the Plus 2, but looks a bit clunky. The Minilite looked good as an original with the spinners, and you will see a lot of cars with bolt-on wheels fitted onto the Ford hubs used by Spyder. My preference would be a set of Revolution 14 inch knock-ons (with the 4 spokes) but you do need to get them with the adaptors.

Neither Wolfrace nor Revolutions are available new any more for the Plus 2, so a bit of hunting on eBay will be needed. I have both that you can have a look at when you get number 32!

Oui Vernon ! but they are 6.5 inches width, also unfortunately they need to be fitted in a car with flared arches (neither from me!)

A slight hijack but does anyone recall these wheels from the 70's?

I have owned them for decades and used them on my first Westfield, they are marked Cosmic RW08, 5 1/2 J * 13 20mm inset, I chose them as they reminded me of the era and i think that they were an aftermarket choice but perhaps they were fitted as OE to a vehicle, did an Elan ever wear them, mmm probably talking out of my rear end unless there are Elans without knock on wheels, I have a lot to learn which is why i now follow this forum.

in any case any info or memories of them will be welcome, I dont want to give away or sell something else only to find that it has become as rare as rocking horse doo-dah

Wish someone would start making those Revolutions again. They just look right...................

What about the Spyder 14" knock on wheels? Has anyone had any experience with them?
