Tyres again - Vredestein 155 HR13 78H Sprint

PostPost by: pereirac » Wed Jan 26, 2011 8:43 pm

Hi,
Apologies for yet another question on tyres.

Does anybody have any experience of these tyres. I have seen them advertised on the internet for around ?56 each which seems a pretty good price for a H rated tyre (especially given the Michelin alternative). The only problem is that I can't find them on the Vredestein website?

Delivery to the UK is pretty reasonable as well.

Thanks

Carl

Hi Carl;

Yes, I have them on S4. Very pleased with the handling and tread pattern. I'm not a tire authority but the VS come recommended by Alfa, Healey, etc owners. Switching from 175 to 155 gave me better turning radius with. no fender rubbing

Phil,

Where did you find the tires? I didn't know they were still sold here. I used to run the vredestein sprints when I first started autocross 30 years ago.

I bought mine here: http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20TIR ... sprint.htm

Prices seem to have gone up recently.

H rated?? The Sprint+ is T rated. I have the 155-13 on the S2 and like it. It is a little tight in the left front wheel well. Plenty of predictable grip, more than adequate for my purposes.

There is also a new "Sprint Classic" which is V rated, but the only 13" size shown on the Vredestein site is 205/60. There are more choices in 14".

I just bought a set of Sprint + 155R13 78T from http://www.tiresbyweb.com/

They cost $75 each including shipping to Niagara Falls NY. It will be a while before I can try them out.

They were shipped directly from Vredestein in NJ. I was worried that they might be "new old stock", but the date code is 1010, i.e. the 10th week of 2010. Made in Holland. They look pretty good.

Hi Carl we all have to stop apologizing for asking questions. The answers are always changing, improved, discontinued and have new updated sources of who still handles them etc. Just look at your responses from our members. Members helping other members is what it is all about.

Hi Sarto,

Nice to hear from you.

The manufacturer tells me the tyres are no longer available but I have a UK dealer who says they are in stock and that they really are H rated. It seems the Sprint+ tyres are T rated and the Sprint tyres H rated. Given the feedback I think I will give them a try, I don't like the look or cost of the Michelin tyres. My current tyres are over 10 years old so these must be better..

Now totally confused!!

My local dealer tells me me that the Vredestein Sprint tyre has not been made for at leats 15 years.
Vredestein say the tyre is no longer made but it's still listed on their downloadable brochure (though not on their website)
Mytyres.co.uk say they have the tyres in stock and that they don't sell tyres older than 2 years...(they seem to be a German company so I would imagine the laws selling goods there would be fairly strict)

Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions ...

Vredestein UK tell me the tyres are available - not what my tyre fitter said!!

Now ordered from mytyres.co.uk ?256 for 5 tyres :D My local tyre place (another one) quoted around ?8 each to fit and balance the tyres. I will take the wheels to them off the car, as I panic when anybody else other than me jacks up my car!

Will let you know how I get on...

Thanks for all the advice

Hi Carl

Not sure who your local fitter is but I have always had good service at competitive prices from these guys in Godmanchester, not too far from you: http://www.huntingdonperformancetyres.co.uk/

For tyres, I would always tell them the price I had got from an internet supplier and they would match or better it, most helpful.

New Sprint + on left and 1981 Sprint ST-155 SR 13 on right (pre- "Sprint Classic").
