Steering column and other hen’s teeth

I have a 1968 plus two project which came without a few parts, namely centre console, steering column, front and rear bumper (1967 spec).
I can’t find any suppliers of these parts.
Are they available anywhere or is it a case of secondhand, repair and reuse ?

I think early +2 had a Ford steering column, have a search and you should be able to find the specifics. Most cars had the triumph spitfire column, which you might be able to get easier and fit.

Front bumper is lotus only part, rear is modified from a Riley I think. If lotus parts suppliers can't get them, then need to find used parts.

I did notice bumpers recently, maybe RDent? but I though it was a UK supplier

The front bumper is ford Anglia mounted upside down. The rear was made of Riley elf with a centre insert welded in

The famous Franks console look very nice, but I am in the UK and I guess postage would be prohibitive.
Still, good to know if nothing else turns up.

I heard that Sue Miller had a mould for the console but I do not know if she has had any made yet.
Give her a try and of course let us know how you get on with sourcing these parts.

The column is from a Mk1 Cortina on your car (currently restoring a mid '68 Plus 2).

It's much better that the later Triumph column in my view as it runs within a tubular outer sleeve and consequently feels much more substantial. The bakelite binnacle is also much nicer than the later vinyl covered fibreglass lash up and the horn on the indicator stalk overcomes all of the problems associated with grounding the column, horn pencils and the like.

Re:shipping between UK and US - though it often doesn't make sense for small, cheap bits, I find it less of a deterrent for bigger ticket items. In fact, there are a number of things for my Lotus and my LR that I've ordered from Britain because the all-in cost was below what I could find here. The most recent example was a rebuilt front diff for my LR - about $1000-$1200 plus shipping here, about $600 from a reputable rebuilder in the UK plus $250 shipping.

I've had lots of success with transglobalexpress.com for arranging shipping in both directions. I've found that to be the cheapest option, and shipping is often quicker than shipping within the states. They have a good website that makes calculating costs easy.
