Steering wheel lock

PostPost by: nitch » Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:11 pm

As some of you noticed, I've recently bought an Elan +2.
Due to logistical problems, I will only get the keys within few weeks.
In order to remove the car from the place is is stored, I will need to turn the wheels to the left, and I wanted to know if this is possible without the key.
I'm sorry for asking without seraching first, but the search engine is not working.
Thanks, and Happy New Year!

If you don't want to remove the steering lock (can sometimes be difficult depending how tight the shear bolts are) the easiest way would be to remove the steering column mountings and then slip the column off the steering UJ (the joint attaching it to the rack)

You could then point the car in any direction simply by pulling the road wheels.

It's a bit of a fiddle to do but will enable you to move the car and then put everything back as it should be when you have the keys.
