1970 Elan flexible steering coupling

Hello

How the heck does anyone manage to remove this U/J from the steering column ??

Mine is locked bl~~dy solid !

You have to get the clamp bolts completely out, since, they intrude into the circumference of the steering shafts, to prevent them sliding off (if they loosen only a little amount).

I found that with the bolts out, I still needed to tap a wedge (Old screwdriver blade ? ) into the slot to try widen the clamp.

Lots of a good release agent too, Plus Gas rather than WD40.

Have done all the above and still stuck fast to the column.
Will keep at it !

Having got the UJ bolts out, I slacken the sliding crash clamp on the shaft just by the clutch pedal, so the shaft can be pushed back. Perhaps an alternative is to dismount the rack fixings.
