I got this wheel out 26/5416 S2 Elan circa 1972 - do you think it is original equipment?

I have bead blasted the boss to see if I can see any identifying marks

This wheel on this other car which I restored many years ago is definitely a repro

26/5416 is currently owned by a lister on here, Gordont in Australia. You two should chat!

Mark will be able to tell you about the validity of your steering wheel.

I don't know about the numbers inside the hub, but in every respect, the wheel looks identical to the original wheel from 26/4869.

I love the sound of a torque wrench in the morning. Sounds like... progress.

Hello Kevit,
I would say that the pictures you have shown are original. I have restored several original 15 inch Springal wood wheels that came from S2 and S3 Elans. The center piece has the same code numbers shown on your hub. There was a question on another thread about the what the original Elan horn push looked like. All of the horns I restored had the same set up (see picture) that used a spring pencil. I enjoy restoring Elan wheels and would restore one for $125.00, you cover the shipping.
Hope that helps,
Sarto

Gentlemen - many thanks for your responses.

Tim- Its over 10 years since I sold both my S2 Elans, so I think my memory of the serial numbers is little out. The last I heard of my yellow Elan was that it was in the West Country (UK).

Sarto- many thanks for your offer to restore my wheel but having sold both my cars well over 10 years ago (I bought a 993 Porsche) I have no need to get the wheel restored.

I am currently thinking about selling it so it will help complete someone else restoration.

Since the original pics I have thrown some paint at it and cleaned it up a bit.
