Steering column bracket to dashboard

A friend is rebuilding an S4 and has a query. The bracket [which is held to the dash with 3 bolts] is not flat across the surface that meets the dash; where the top large bolt fits the bracket appears to need a spacer of about 2 mill. Is there another bracket or spacer missing, cheers, John.

I think they are all like that, never seen a washer/plate inserted. Maybe the design thought was that the bracket would be mounted/sandwiched. The bracket and dashboard as bread and the fiberglass as the meat . I don't know.

I believe it's a Lotus part...(sourced from where the door hinge castings came from p'raps?)
At least I can't see it on here:

I too think Lotus, i have had a couple GT6 and the column clamp was different. there are no identifying marks or trade marks, just a nicely die cast part

It did not appear to originally on my S3 .....well there was no hole, but the new dash had been fitted badly and when I got everything in line the fibre glass half went accross the mounting.

the above link has some photos of 26/4997 (LHD) when it was disassembled 15 years ago. specifically the removal of the dash.
26/4020 body also LHD
LHD body 4275
This is an S4 LHD coupe (bitsa) 36/9686 without any hint of the fiberglass mounting tabs, by this time the dashed had the crush bushes and threaded bobbins for the dashboard 5/16 unc screws bonded into the body.
Look in the upper right, I even reassembled it with the fiberglass as the meat between the dashboard and bracket funny how it sometimes works out...

Thanks for the photos Gary, maybe early cars had a tab which was deleted later, cheers, John.
