A quick and silly question about Indicators

On my early Elan +2, I used to have both indicators working, but had to cancel them manually.
Now the off-side indicators has stopped working, and the stalk seems to be self-cancelling when straightening the wheel after turning. Is this the correct behavior for my car, or has something gone funny with the indicator stalk?
Thanks all...

Mine are self canceling. There is a clip on the steering column with a bump on it that hits the spring-loaded column switch, causing it to re-centre and cancel the blinking. Perhaps this clip had/has slipped out of position and is not bumping the column switch correctly to cancel?
The clip can be moved on the column or completely removed, although mine was on quite firmly. I rotated the bump to the other side of the column so I could position my indicator stalk to my left hand.
The clip and cancel function is mechanical, and separate from any general electrical issues that may cause the indicators not to blink (i.e. broken or dirty switch, loose wire connection, etc.).

Thanks Stu.
I had the steering rack replaced by Spyder recently. I think they've reset the steering column and now the self-cancel feature works. I never thought that such a feature would have existed in 1968.
I've also go my indicators working, which was just a lose connection under the steering column.
Right, onto the next job. Now what was that again?
