Steering rack pinion bearing dowel

PostPost by: vstibbard » Sun Aug 20, 2023 3:44 am

I’ve managed to lose the dowel that stops the upper pinion bearing from rotating which is frustrating.
Is anyone able to measure one up for length and diameter please so I can try my local bearing shop.
Or if anyone has a spare one I’d be pleased to purchase it.
While I’m at it any guidance on grade for pinion end of rack?
I’m using lithium grease for the bush end.
Cheers

Thanks Roger and Clive, really appreciate the replies.
I'm now on the hunt for a local supplier.

Sounds like you need to use the shank of an old 1/8" dia twist drill to me. Also your grindstone, don't burn your fingers.

Bloody great idea and I’ve more than one broken drill in that size.
I’d found dowels but none that short and like everything today, .50cents to buy and $25 shipping!!!
