Steering rack U-Bolt clamp torque setting?

PostPost by: Johnfm » Thu Nov 14, 2013 11:33 am

I did a search and looked in both of my manuals and cannot see if there is a figure for torquing the nuts that secured the steering rack (i.e. on the end of the U-bolt that has the rubber bushing.

Any ideas?

The handling is a bit skittish on test drive, so I wonder if the rack isn't secure enough.

If I recall correctly I don't think the bolt torque would have much if any influence on rack location by virtue of the clamp design but I stand to be corrected.

It is more likely I would think that your bushes are soft. Many, including myself, replace them with solid rack mounts as available from Rimmers and other Triumph suppliers at quite modest cost.

Cheers

It may just be alignment I suppose - as I have jsut replaced the front bushes, ball joints, tie-rods adn not had it aligned yet.
